Job summary

The Maryland Public Service Commission’s Office of General Counsel seeks a full-time Attorney to provide legal and policy advice on regulation of electric, gas, transportation, and other industries.

Based in Baltimore, you will review applications, draft orders, brief matters, and litigate in state and federal courts, leveraging your J.D. and energy regulation experience to protect public interest and ensure fair rates and reliable service.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Maryland Bar.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • At least three years of legal experience, with preferred energy regulation experience.
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide analysis, advice and support to the Commission on matters before it and before state/federal agencies.
  • Review, evaluate and analyze applications, documents, testimony and pleadings submitted to the Commission.
  • Prepare draft Commission orders.
  • Provide oral and written briefings on matters of interest to the Commission.
  • Litigate cases in state and federal courts, including handling appeals of Commission orders.
