Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is seeking a part-time Patient Access Clerk in Illinois to perform Medicare compliance reviews, estimate patient financial responsibility, and coordinate pre-authorizations. You will register patients for services, verify insurance details, and communicate effectively with patients and providers.

The role requires strong organizational skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred; high school diploma required.
• Experience in healthcare or revenue cycle preferred.
• Strong customer service experience.
• Knowledge of Medicare compliance and pre-authorization processes.

Responsibilities

• Performs Medicare compliance reviews and issues ABNs as needed.
• Creates accurate estimates of patient financial responsibility and collects payments or sets up payment plans.
• Coordinates with utilization management for pre-authorizations and provides necessary information to patients.
• Contacts insurance companies to verify eligibility/benefits and obtains pre-authorizations within timeframes.
• Registers patients for all services, ensuring accuracy and minimizing duplicate records.

Job Description:

• Schedule: Part Time (24 hours a week), 11:30pm-7am and every other weekend

• Performs Medicare compliance reviews and issues Advance Beneficiary Notices of Noncoverage as needed.
• Creates accurate estimates for patient financial responsibility and collects payments or establishes payment plans.
• Coordinates with utilization management staff for pre‑authorization issues and ensures patients have necessary logistical information.
• Contacts insurance companies to verify eligibility and benefits, and obtains pre‑authorizations within established timeframes.
• Registers patients for all services, ensuring accuracy and minimizing duplication of medical records.

Shift: 11:30am-8pm and every other weekend

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Mature judgement in dealing with patients, physicians, and insurance representatives
• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs
• Ability to operate general office machines such as computer, fax machine, printer, and scanner
• Ability to effectively learn and perform multiple tasks, and organize work in a systematic and efficient fashion
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and written

Education:

• Associate [Preferred]
• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

• 1+ customer service [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:
