Job summary

Valley Health System in Paramus, NJ is seeking a Business Assistant to support the Outpatient Care Center, Centralized Department and patient services.

Responsibilities include registration, cash collection, cash reconciliation, notices of admission to payers, financial counseling, admitting and data processing. The role requires a high school diploma (BA training preferred) and 3–6 months in a similar role, with strong communication and attention to detail; night shift.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; BA training program required.
• CHAA certification preferred.
• 3–6 months experience in a Business Assistant/Unit Secretary role; customer service required.
• Computer experience—Windows environment.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and handle cash collection.
• Perform cash reconciliation and notices of admission to payers.
• Provide financial counseling and admission support to patients.
• Support patient/department operations and information processing.
• Manage databases and inventory; assist education/development tasks.

Position Summary

To support the Outpatient Care Center, Centralized Department and patient by providing a variety of services such as registration, cash collection, cash reconciliation, notice of admission to payers upon admission, financial counseling, admitting, patient/department support, information processing, database management, materials/inventory management, education/development and unit-specific tasks.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of formal business/medical training preferred. Completion of BA training program required. Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification preferred.

Experience

At least 3 to 6 months experience as a Business Assistant, Business Associate, Unit Secretary or equivalent experience. Computer experience - knowledge of windows environment. Previous customer service experience required. Medical office experience prefers

Skills

Effective communication and writing skills - ability to articulate and use proper spelling and grammar. Effective interpersonal skills to work with co-workers and other staff members. Working knowledge of hospital business office billing procedures preferred. Knowledge of state regulatory requirements regarding charity care. Effective critical thinking skills, e.g., analytical, problem - solving, decision making, prioritizing, time management, etc. Ability to pay attention to details, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, Typing/keyboarding 25 - 30 wpm at a minimum.
