The Valley Hospital in Paramus, NJ is seeking a capable Business Assistant to support the Outpatient Care Center and Centralized Department. The role involves registration, cash collection, admission notices to payers, financial counseling, admitting, and broad patient/department support tasks.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with BA training and CHAA certification preferred, plus 3–6 months of related experience. Knowledge of Windows and strong English communication are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; BA training program required; CHAA certification preferred.
• Experience: 3–6 months as a Business Assistant/Business Associate/Unit Secretary or equivalent; medical office experience preferred.
• Computer experience in Windows environment; strong communication and grammar; ability to read/write/speak English; 25–30 wpm typing.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and handle cash collection and reconciliation.
• Provide notice of admission to payers; perform financial counseling and admitting tasks.
• Support patient/department operations and information processing; manage databases and inventory; assist in education and development.
• Handle unit-specific tasks as assigned and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Position Summary

To support the Outpatient Care Center, Centralized Department and patient by providing a variety of services such as registration, cash collection, cash reconciliation, notice of admission to payers upon admission, financial counseling, admitting, patient/department support, information processing, database management, materials/inventory management, education/development and unit-specific tasks.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of formal business/medical training preferred. Completion of BA training program required. Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification preferred.

Experience

At least 3 to 6 months experience as a Business Assistant, Business Associate, Unit Secretary or equivalent experience.

Computer experience - knowledge of windows environment. Previous customer service experience required. Medical office experience prefers.

Skills Effective communication and writing skills - ability to articulate and use proper spelling and grammar. Effective interpersonal skills to work with co-workers and other staff members. Working knowledge of hospital business office billing procedures preferred. Knowledge of state regulatory requirements regarding charity care. Effective critical thinking skills, e.g., analytical, problem - solving, decision making, prioritizing, time management, etc. Ability to pay attention to details, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, Typing/keyboarding 25 - 30 wpm at a minimum.
