Job summary

Highpoint Health Sumner is seeking a registered nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care in the Surgery unit. You will use the nursing process and plan-of-care interventions to support patient wellbeing and safety.

The role involves medication administration, documentation, patient education, and collaboration with physicians and care teams to ensure smooth patient journeys and high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current RN license in state of practice; BCLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process in Surgery.
  • Perform plan of care interventions including medication administration and clinical treatments.
  • Document patient care and monitor patient condition for care team and family.

How You'll Contribute

You'll make an impact by utilizing your specialized plan-of-care intervention and serving as a patient-care innovator. You will shape exceptional patient journeys every day and leverage your skills and our cutting-edge technology to directly impact patient wellbeing.

Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in Surgery

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Performs patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in other nursing units as necessary.
Essential Functions Additional Information

Patient Populations Served: Neonate, Infant, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.

Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.

Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present for all employees.

Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
