Job summary

West Allis Medical Center, part of Advocate Health, is seeking registered nurses for the 5 South: Stroke ACE Med/Surg unit. The unit focuses on neurology with a 34-bed inpatient Med/Surg setting, offering a Nurse Residency and preceptor-guided orientation.

RNs, including new grads, will work 12-hour night shifts (7:00 pm–7:30 am) with self-scheduling and periodic weekend/holiday rotation, in a collaborative, supportive team environment that values growth and compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing program.
• Active RN license in the state of practice.
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association).
• New grads welcome; experienced RNs welcome.

Responsibilities

• Complete Nurse Residency and preceptor-led orientation.
• Develop time management, triage, pharmacology, labs, and pathophysiology skills.
• Coordinate patient care using the nursing process to deliver safe, evidence-based care.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Provide 12-hour shift-based coverage and continuity of care.
• Support diverse patient populations with compassionate care.

Where you will work:

5 South: Stroke ACE Med/Surg is a 34 inpatient acute care Med/Surg unit caring for a wide variety of diagnosis including Stroke, Seizures, Neuro focus, Diabetes, Electrolyte imbalance, Kidney Disease, Mental Health, Dementia, Alzheimer’s. This is an excellent unit to build a neurological focus, foundational skills, become certified in the specialty of Med/Surg and develop specialized skills applicable to any area in nursing.

• Typical RN to Patient Ratio: Days: 1:4-5, Nights: 1:5-6

What we are looking for:

• Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
• Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
• New RN's and Experienced RN's WELCOME!

What you will do:

• Build foundational skills and knowledge through Nurse Residency and Preceptor directed orientation.
• Build skills in time management, triaging accountabilities, communication skills, pharmacology, lab interpretation, pathophysiology of disease process through a variety of med/surg patients with acute and chronic conditions.
• Coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
• Develop collaborative relationships with a resourceful multi-disciplinary team.
• Provide continuity of patient care through 12-hour shifts, patient centered care and team minded support.
• Be a valued member of a highly skilled, resilient, and versatile nursing team committed to ensuring the delivery of quality and compassionate healthcare to diverse patient populations.

Schedule:

• Self-scheduling: 6-week schedules
• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 pm to 7:30 am
• Every third weekend and 50% holiday rotation
