Inova Health is seeking a compassionate RN Perioperative Liaison to bridge communication between patients, families and the perioperative team. This full-time role emphasizes coordination across preop, PACU and OR settings and supports optimal patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate has 1 year of perioperative nursing experience, an active Virginia RN license, and a BSN or ADN with BSN within 5 years. BLS certification is required and a leadership mindset is valued.

• RN license to practice in Virginia
• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in nursing; BSN within 5 years if ADN
• BLS for Healthcare Provider certification

Responsibilities

• Serve as central point of contact for patients and families, providing updates and education before, during and after surgery.
• Coordinate communication between surgical teams, nursing staff and families to ensure clarity and compassionate care.
• Mentor and support colleagues to foster teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with physicians and allied health professionals to coordinate individualized perioperative care plans.
• Conduct post-operative follow-up calls and document outcomes for the care team and leadership.

Inova Alexandria PACU is currently seeking a compassionate and experienced OR RN or PreOp/PACU Nurse for a full-time position as an RN Perioperative Liaison role. The schedule for this role is Monday-Friday: 5x8 hour shifts starting at 9.00a-5.30p. This position plays a vital role in bridging communication between patients, families, and the multidisciplinary care team, ensuring a seamless and supportive perioperative experience.

The OR is equipped with 11 surgical suites. Comprehensive range of surgical specialties to include, orthopedics-total joints, sports medicine, spine, General Surgery, ENT, gynecology, urology, plastics, vascular, neurosurgery, podiatry, and maxillofacial.

Role Overview

The RN Perioperative Liaison is a key communicator and advocate, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through integrated care coordination. This role requires a nurse who excels in interpersonal communication, builds trust with families, and fosters strong partnerships with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.

The Liaison serves as a resource, mentor, and leader—providing guidance, education, and emotional support throughout the perioperative continuum. The ideal candidate will demonstrate clinical expertise, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making

Perioperative Liaison Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a central point of contact for patients and families, providing timely updates, education, and emotional support before, during, and after surgery.
• Chart audits-review completed charts for confirmation of documentation of standards.
• Facilitate communication between surgical teams, nursing staff, and families to ensure clarity, continuity, and compassionate care.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to coordinate individualized care plans and anticipate patient needs.
• Conduct post-operative follow-up calls, documenting outcomes and communicating relevant information to the care team and leadership.
• Support safe transitions from the perioperative environment, ensuring discharge/admission criteria are met and patient/family expectations are addressed.
• Empower patients and families by providing clear information and guidance throughout the surgical experience.
• Mentor and support colleagues, contributing to a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Perioperative Liaison Job Qualifications

• One year of Preoperative and PACU and/or OR nursing experience
• Education - Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Associate’s degree. If RN has an Associate’s degree, must complete BSN within 5 years of start date
• RN License to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• BLS for Healthcare Provider certification via American Heart Association

Preferred Perioperative Liaison Job Qualifications

• 2+ years in PreOp, PACU or OR nursing
