Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking an experienced OR RN or PreOp/PACU nurse for a full-time RN Perioperative Liaison role. The position offers Mon-Fri, 5x8 hour shifts from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm and focuses on coordinating care across patients, families and the multidisciplinary team to ensure a seamless perioperative experience.

The ideal candidate will have 1+ year of PreOp, PACU or OR nursing, an active Virginia RN license, and BLS certification, with a BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of PreOp, PACU, or OR nursing experience.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing or Associate's degree with BSN within 5 years.
• Virginia RN license required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as central contact for patients and families with updates, education and support.
• Chart audits—review documentation of standards.
• Facilitate communication between surgical teams, nursing staff and families for clarity and continuity.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses and allied professionals to coordinate individualized care plans.
• Conduct post-operative follow-up calls and document outcomes for the care team.
• Support safe transitions from perioperative to discharge/admission as appropriate.
• Empower patients and families with clear information throughout the surgical experience.
• Mentor and support colleagues to foster teamwork and continuous improvement.

Inova Alexandria PACU is currently seeking a compassionate and experienced OR RN or PreOp/PACU Nurse for a full-time position as an RN Perioperative Liaison role.The schedule for this role is Monday-Friday: 5x8 hour shifts starting at 9.00a-5.30p. This position plays a vital role in bridging communication between patients, families, and the multidisciplinary care team, ensuring a seamless and supportive perioperative experience.

The OR is equipped with 11 surgical suites. Comprehensive range of surgical specialties to include, orthopedics-total joints, sports medicine, spine, General Surgery, ENT, gynecology, urology, plastics, vascular, neurosurgery, podiatry, and maxillofacial.

Role Overview

The RN Perioperative Liaison is a key communicator and advocate, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through integrated care coordination. This role requires a nurse who excels in interpersonal communication, builds trust with families, and fosters strong partnerships with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.

The Liaison serves as a resource, mentor, and leader—providing guidance, education, and emotional support throughout the perioperative continuum. The ideal candidate will demonstrate clinical expertise, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making

• Serve as a central point of contact for patients and families, providing timely updates, education, and emotional support before, during, and after surgery.
• Chart audits-review completed charts for confirmation of documentation of standards.
• Facilitate communication between surgical teams, nursing staff, and families to ensure clarity, continuity, and compassionate care.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to coordinate individualized care plans and anticipate patient needs.
• Conduct post-operative follow-up calls, documenting outcomes and communicating relevant information to the care team and leadership.
• Support safe transitions from the perioperative environment, ensuring discharge/admission criteria are met and patient/family expectations are addressed.
• Empower patients and families by providing clear information and guidance throughout the surgical experience.
• Mentor and support colleagues, contributing to a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement
