Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is hiring an Registered Nurse for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in New Jersey. The role is day shift, 36 hours per week, providing high-acuity care to infants and children with critical illnesses. You will work with a multidisciplinary team in a 20-bed unit designated as Level 1 trauma center.

Requirements include active NJ RN license, BLS, ACLS, PALS, 3–5 years of Pediatric ICU experience; ADN required with BSN preferred; experience with EPIC EMR highly valued.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20-bed unit that provides round-the-clock critical care to infants, children, and adolescents with life-threatening illnesses or injuries. They continuously monitor vital signs, manage ventilators, administer high-risk medications, and assist physicians during bedside procedures. The team provides emotional support and education to families facing stressful medical crises. As a state designated Level 1 trauma center, the unit cares for patients before and after complex procedures. The multidisciplinary team delivers highly specialized monitoring, critical care interventions, and evidence-based treatment focused on achieving optimal patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

  • Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
  • Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
  • Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
  • Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
  • Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
  • Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
  • Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes
  • Pursuing continued professional growth through access to continuing education, clinical ladder opportunities, and organizational resources that support long term career progression

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. ACLS Certification and PALS Certification are required. 3-5 years of Pediatric RN experience required. Previous acute care RNexperience is preferred. An Associate’s degree in Nursing is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is strongly preferred, as is prior patient care experience and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position is DayShift, 36 hours per week, 7am-7:30pm.
