Job summary

Highpoint Health Sumner in Gallatin, TN is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Nursery to provide direct newborn care using the nursing process. The role includes medication administration, monitoring, and family support, with collaboration across the care team to ensure safe, developmentally appropriate care.

Ideal candidates hold ADN with TN RN license (BSN preferred), current BLS, and neonatal certification readiness.

Qualifications

• ADN required; BSN preferred.
• Current RN license to practice in TN.
• BLS certification or within 90 days after hire date; STABLE or equivalent cert within 6–12 months; Neonatal Resuscitation cert within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct newborn care using the nursing process.
• Administer medications and perform standard nursery treatments.
• Monitor, document, and communicate patient status to care team and family.
• Support patient families and coordinate transfers, discharges, and referrals.

How you’ll contribute

Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment. Documents patient care given. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family. Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances. Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient. Non-Essential Functions Review and comply with LifePoint Code of Conduct and all relevant Company and Division policies and procedures.

Qualifications and requirements

• Education: Associate's Degree Nursing (ADN) Required; Bachelor's Degree Nursing (BSN) Preferred
• Current RN to practice/work in the state of TN;

• Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (or) obtained within 90 days after hire date; Current S.T.A.B.L.E. certification OR obtained after 6 months of nursery experience but prior to completing 12 months of nursery experience. Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification within 90 days after hire date.

  Minimum Work Experience

• One or more years of recent Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery experience preferred. Required Skills
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
