Job summary

Haywood Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for Behavioral Health to join a 33-bed unit serving adults and geriatrics. You will provide skilled nursing care during night shifts, participate in interdisciplinary rounds, and ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

This role requires NC RN licensure, BLS within 30 days, ACLS/PALS within six months, and a commitment to collaborative, compassionate care in a bustling behavioral health setting.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in NC or compact state
• BLS required within 30 days of hire
• ACLS and PALS required within six months
• 1 year of nursing experience preferred
• Ability to think critically and work under pressure

Job Type: Full Time | Nights

$10,000 Sign-On Bonus for New Grad RNs, $20,000 Sign-On Bonus for night shift experienced RNs with a 2-year commitment for eligible candidates.

Schedule: 3x12s, night shift (7p-7a). Rotating holidays and weekends required.

Join our team in a 33-bed Behavioral Health Unit specializing in adult and geriatric patients. Staffed with compassionate healthcare professionals, including RNs, CNAs, Mental Health Assistants, Psychiatrists, and Mental Health Providers. Operating with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6-1:9, our unit treats a variety of diagnoses such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Patients may present with psychosis, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, mania, or exacerbations of mental illness. This role offers an opportunity to work collaboratively in a supportive environment focused on providing quality care and support to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises.

How you'll contribute

• Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
• Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
• Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
• Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
• Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

What we're looking for

Licenses: Active North Carolina or compact state RN license required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.

• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
