Job summary

Haywood Regional Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Behavioral Health unit. This full-time night-shift role includes 3x12s (7p-7a) with rotating weekends/holidays, in a 33-bed unit caring for adults and geriatric patients.

The nurse will perform assessments, develop care plans, document medical necessity, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. A $10k sign-on for new grads and $20k for experienced RNs with a 2-year commitment are offered.

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina RN license or a compact state RN license.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS required within six months of hire.
• One year of RN experience preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and provide quality care.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate patient assessments and identify patient needs.
• Identify and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
• Provide age-appropriate care based on patient condition.
• Document medical necessity and care in the medical record.
• Develop and revise the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient.
• Complete timely Quality Improvement assessments.

Join our team in a 33-bed Behavioral Health Unit specializing in adult and geriatric patients. Staffed with compassionate healthcare professionals, including RNs, CNAs, Mental Health Assistants, Psychiatrists, and Mental Health Providers. Operating with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6-1:9, our unit treats a variety of diagnoses such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Patients may present with psychosis, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, mania, or exacerbations of mental illness. This role offers an opportunity to work collaboratively in a supportive environment focused on providing quality care and support to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises.

How you'll contribute

• Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
• Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
• Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
• Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
• Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

What we're looking for

Licenses: Active North Carolina or compact state RN license required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.

• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
