Job summary

Baptist Health in Lexington, KY is seeking a Part Time Registered Nurse - Pre-Op for second shift to prepare patients for surgery and support the surgical team. The role focuses on safety, efficient care, and compassionate patient interactions in the Pre-Operative unit.

You will assess needs, plan care, provide direct nursing care, and supervise other staff while ensuring a healing environment and smooth care transitions for patients undergoing surgery.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Kentucky.
• BSN or ASN degree from an accredited program.
• BLS certification current or within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS/PALS/NRP and dysrhythmia training as required by department.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients' needs and develop care plans.
• Provide direct patient care and supervise assigned staff.
• Coordinate and manage patient care delivery throughout shifts.
• Demonstrate leadership and support quality of care and patient relations.
• On-call requirements weekends/holidays as rotating.
• Assist OR nurses before, during and after surgery; participate in all phases of nursing process.

The Pre-Operative (Pre-Op) Surgery Unit is a critical component of the hospital's surgical services, dedicated to preparing patients for surgical procedures. This unit ensures that patients are physically, emotionally, and administratively ready for their surgery, focusing on safety, efficiency, and comfort. The Pre-Op Unit streamlines the surgical process by coordinating necessary assessments, addressing patient concerns, and optimizing care transitions.

Description Registered Nurse Pre-OP:

• Assessment of patients' needs.
• Development of patient care plan/s
• Provision of direct care.
• Management of patient care delivery.
• Demonstrate of leadership skills.
• Support for quality care.
• Customer relations and healing environment.
• On call requirement weekends/holidays picked by rotation.
• Operating Room Nurses provide care and support to patients before, during and after surgery.
• Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking and creativity.
• Must possess ability to supervise and delegate appropriate work to Patient Care Techs, Licensed Practical Nurses, Unit Secretaries, and Students.

Requirements Registered Nurse Pre-OP:

• Current RN licensure and work permit in Kentucky.
• Bachelor's or an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college/university.
• Applicants with an associate degree in nursing and less than 10 years of experience must enroll within 12 months of hire in a bachelor's degree program and must have achieved the degree within 5 years.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.
• ACLSPALS/NRP and successful completion of dysrhythmia class as required by department of assignment.
