Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to support the Intermediate Care/Stepdown unit with 24 hours per week across day or night shifts.

This part-time role emphasizes high-quality patient-centered care, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and smooth transitions from critical care to Med/Surg. The ideal candidate holds an ADN/ Diploma or BSN, an active Missouri RN license (or compact), BLS, and preferably ACLS/NIHSS/PCCN.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, Diploma or BSN).
• Missouri RN license or compact license active.
• BLS required; ACLS/NIHSS/PCCN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care for intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from CCU to Med/Surg.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care using evidence-based practices.
• Perform accurate hand-offs and bedside shift reporting to ensure patient safety.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners and multidisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes.
• Administer medications and monitor cardiac/respiratory conditions; support recovery.
• Participate in huddles, governance activities and quality improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do

• Provide high-quality care for intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg level.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care using evidence-based practices.
• Perform accurate hand-offs and bedside shift reporting to maintain patient safety.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners, and multidisciplinary partners to optimize patient outcomes.
• Administer medications, monitor complex conditions (cardiac, respiratory, post-ICU), and support recovery.
• Participate in huddles, shared governance activities, and unit-based quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN, Diploma, or BSN).
• BSN preferred.

Licensure

• Current Missouri RN license or compact license.

Certifications

• Required: BLS (American Heart Association).
• Preferred: ACLS, NIHSS, PCCN, or other Stepdown-related certifications.
