Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Intermediate Care Stepdown team. The role focuses on providing high-quality care as patients transition from critical care to Med/Surg level, with 24 hours per week across day or night shifts.

This position emphasizes evidence-based practice, safe hand-offs, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Qualified candidates will have nursing education (ADN/ diploma/ BSN) with MO RN licensure; BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN, Diploma, or BSN).
• BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care for intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg level.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care using evidence-based practices.
• Perform accurate hand-offs and bedside shift reporting to maintain patient safety.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners, and multidisciplinary partners to optimize patient outcomes.
• Administer medications, monitor complex conditions (cardiac, respiratory, post-ICU), and support recovery.
• Participate in huddles, shared governance activities, and unit-based quality improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do

Qualifications

Education

Licensure

• Current Missouri RN license or compact license.

Certifications

• Required: BLS (American Heart Association).
• Preferred: ACLS, NIHSS, PCCN, or other Stepdown-related certifications.
