Job summary

Boulder Centre for Orthopedics & Spine is seeking an Operating Room RN with at least 2 years of recent orthopedic OR experience. You will perform circulating duties before and during procedures, assist with scrubbing, and provide high-level perioperative care.

The role reports to the OR Manager and requires heavy attention to safety and HIPAA compliance. Regular schedule is Monday-Thursday, 10-hour shifts, onsite in Colorado.

Qualifications

• 2 years of OR nursing (RN) experience required.
• Colorado RN license current.
• BCLS & ACLS certification required.
• Orthopedic OR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs circulating functions before surgery: prepare environment, orient and assess patient, review records.
• Ensures safety checklists and procedures are documented.
• Performs circulating functions during surgery: monitor patient, document interventions, control OR traffic.
• Assists with scrub functions: prep, selection and handling of instruments; perform counts with scrub nurse.
• Provide nursing care to high-acuity surgical patients in a technically complex environment.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties

• Performs circulating functions before surgery, including preparing the operating environment, orienting and assessing the patient, and reviewing patient’s medical record and surgeon’s notes to ensure all pre-requisites and preferences are met.
• Ensures safety checklists and procedures are implemented and documented at all times.
• Performs circulating functions during surgery, including monitoring and communicating patient condition, documenting interventions and activities, monitoring the sterile field and controlling traffic into, out of and around the operating room suite.
• Assists with scrub functions, including the preparation, selection, and handling of instruments and supplies used during the surgical procedure. Performs surgical counts with the surgical tech/scrub nurse.
• Provides nursing care to a complex, high acuity surgical patient population in a technically complex environment.
• Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Experience Required: 2 years of OR nursing (RN) experience. Previous ASC experience in an Orthopedic setting preferred.

Education/Certification Requirements

• Degree in Nursing: Bachelors Preferred
• Current Colorado Registered Nurse license
• BCLS & ACLS certification required.
