Role Description

The Registered Nurse Observation Unit role is a full-time, on-site position located in Murfreesboro, TN. The nurse provides direct, evidence-based care to patients in the observation unit, including ongoing assessment, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and coordinating diagnostic tests and treatments. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and implementing individualized care plans, collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, and ensuring safe transitions of care, including admissions, transfers, and discharges. The nurse educates patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and self-care, while promoting patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction. The role also involves accurate and timely documentation, adherence to clinical and regulatory standards, and participation in quality improvement and unit-based initiatives.

Qualifications

• Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Tennessee (or eligibility to obtain), and graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing; BSN preferred).
• Clinical skills in acute care nursing, including patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, and monitoring of patients in an observation or similar unit.
• Proficiency in IV therapy, basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ACLS) as required, and safe use of monitoring equipment and clinical technologies.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond effectively to changing patient conditions, with sound clinical judgment and attention to patient safety.
• Experience in medical-surgical, emergency department, or observation unit nursing preferred; prior work in a hospital setting is beneficial.
