McPherson Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Registered Nurse for the night shift on the Medical/Surgical unit.

The role focuses on providing individualized nursing care and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for patients across stages of illness. Responsibilities include educating patients on their care plan, administering medications per the five rights, and communicating patient needs to the care team.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Nursing or equivalent formal training required.
• BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient understanding of plan of care and educate during hospital stay.
• Follow established protocols for narcotics and medication administration ensuring the 5 rights are met.
• Communicate patient condition and plan of care to doctors and staff.
• Document concerns, findings, and actions to ensure continuity of care.
• Monitor patient status and vital signs to provide appropriate care.

Education

Associate’s degree in Nursing

Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) preferred

Job Summary:

Provides the highest attainable quality of individualized nursing care for each patient to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment in which the patient’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs are assessed and met during any stage of illness.

Essential Functions/Accountabilities:

• Assess patient understanding of plan of care, to better facilitate education opportunities and materials during hospital stay, working towards dismissal from admission
• Follows established protocols for narcotic and other medication administration ensuring the 5 rights of medication administration are met
• Communicates pertinent information related to patients’ condition to inform doctors, additional staff nurses and/or ancillary departments of patient’s needs and/or plan of care
• Document concerns, findings, and actions, implementing appropriate care plans related to patient’s diagnosis for continuity of care
• Assess patient’s condition, continuously monitoring changes in status, physical findings, vital signs, coping skills ensuring appropriate care is given related to patient’s needs

Education:

• Associate’s degree in Nursing (two-year program) or equivalent formal training program.
• Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) preferred

Licenses/ Certifications:

• Licensed in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse or LPN in good standing
• BLS verification within 6 months of hiring
• ACLS and PALS verified within 6 months of hiring
