Registered Nurse – Advanced Skills / ICU RN
Summary: Provides quality patient care to critically ill patients through the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. Acts as a patient advocate at all times. Supervises the nursing care provided by other caregivers. Develops nursing care plans in coordination with patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff. Applies critical thinking to promote positive clinical outcomes and ensures patient education. Participates in discharge planning.
- Maintains nursing care standards and follows hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
- Assesses patients on admission within the required time frame; makes referrals to other disciplines such as rehabilitation and nutritional services as needed.
- Develops and updates nursing care plans for assigned patients, coordinating with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Manages restraints appropriately, ensuring patient positioning and alignment.
- Documents assessments, care plans, and pertinent information accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Demonstrates correct use of biomedical equipment such as defibrillators, suction machines, IV and feeding pumps, PCA pumps, and blood glucose monitors.
- Delivers safe and effective patient care, completing assignments timely, showing initiative, and working collaboratively.
- Obtains informed consents for procedures and transfusions, providing necessary information to patients.
- Receives and transcribes physician orders accurately; ensures orders are followed through.
- Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition, initiating emergency protocols as necessary.
- Completes and documents assessments and reassessments per policy.
- Reports significant observations and reactions to appropriate personnel and records them accurately.
- Administers medications with knowledge of actions, side effects, dosages, and routes, following ICU policies.
- Recognizes and manages arrhythmias, implementing protocols for rhythms such as V-tach, V-fib, and others.
- Supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to patients.
- Administers medications using the seven rights of medication administration.
- Assists physicians with special tests and procedures like thoracentesis, arterial lines, and bronchoscopy.
- Participates in the economical use of supplies and maintains equipment in a clean, safe condition.
- Contributes to orientation and performance evaluations of nursing staff.
- Supports team members in patient care and provides direct care as needed.
- Coordinates nursing care during therapies or procedures scheduled by other departments.
- Assists with emergency measures for adverse patient events such as cardiac or respiratory arrest.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited Registered Nursing program.
Licenses / Certifications:
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- BCLS and ACLS certifications are required.
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of training and experience in Critical Care.
