Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Float Pool Nurse to provide direct nursing care across multiple units in our Magnet-designated teaching hospital. You will work across medical-surgical, telemetry, intermediate care, and ED boarding environments, delivering high-quality care with flexibility and critical thinking.

The role requires an active DC RN license, 2+ years in Intermediate Care/Step-down ICU, and BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Valid RN license in DC required.
• 2+ years of Intermediate Care/Step-down ICU experience.
• Academic Medical Center experience preferred.
• BSN preferred (per qualifications).

About the Job

Autonomous, collaborative, compassionate care in a Magnet designated, teaching hospital environment. At our 532-bed academic medical facility and teaching hospital, nurses are encouraged to grow in their profession, collaborate with physician partners and actively participate in the plan of care for acute and vulnerable patients throughout the hospital.

This position offers the unique opportunity to work across various departments, gain diverse clinical experiences, and make a significant impact on patient outcomes. As a Float Pool Nurse, you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care across multiple patient care units, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety. You will work as a versatile member of our nursing team who adapts to different clinical settings, including but not limited to medical-surgical, telemetry, intermediate care, and boarding patients in our emergency department. This position requires flexibility, critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse, you will provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs-from routine to highly complex. You will assess evolving patient conditions, identify actual and potential health concerns, and develop appropriate care plans. Interventions may be delivered directly or coordinated through collaboration with other members of the nursing team.

Qualifications

• ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required. BSN preferred.
• At least two full years of recent Intermediate Care/Stepdwon ICU (inpatient acute care hospital) clinical nursing (RN) experience required.
• Academic Medical Center experience preferred.
• Active DC RN License upon hire and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross).

This position has a hiring range of USD $42.00 - USD $69.43 /Hr.
