Job summary

Ascension Health in Milwaukee, WI, is seeking a Surgical Nurse to join the Surgery department on a Rotating Shift | PRN schedule at Columbia St Mary's Milwaukee.

You will scrub and circulate, assist physicians with hemostasis and suturing, prepare ORs and instruments, and ensure patient care before, during, and after procedures. Requires ALS and BLS and RN licensure in WI or MN as applicable.

Qualifications

• Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire; AHA or Red Cross accepted.
• BLS within 1 month of hire; AHA or Red Cross accepted.
• RN credentialed from Minnesota Board of Nursing prior to hire; licensure state dependent.
• RN credentialed from Wisconsin Board of Nursing prior to hire; licensure dependent on state.

Responsibilities

• Perform scrub functions selecting and handling instruments for procedures.
• Perform circulating functions: monitor patient condition and manage nursing care during procedures.
• Directly assist operating physician with hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure, and patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.

• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.

• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.

• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

• One or more of the following required:

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Minnesota Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Licensure is dependent on state associate works in.

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Licensure from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing OR current home state license if considered multi-state/Compact State. Licensure is dependent on state associate works in.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time ofhire required.
