Job summary

MercyOne Health System in Des Moines, Iowa, is seeking a Registered Nurse for MercyOne Central Iowa. Join a 40-bed medical-surgical unit delivering care across urology, nephrology, trauma, and colorectal surgery, with virtual and bedside collaboration.

The RN will provide individualized nursing care, coordinate care across admission, transfer, and discharge, and rotate day/night shifts. 36 hours/week across three 12-hour shifts, with some weekends and holidays required.

Qualifications

• Current or compact state licensure as a registered nurse (Iowa).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
• Practices safe patient handling techniques.
• Continues to evaluate assigned patients and provides ongoing treatment.
• Anticipates, identifies, and responds to educational and emotional needs of patients and families.
• Guides and directs healthcare personnel in caring for patients.
• Manages equipment setup and safety (IV pumps, monitors, drains).
• Initiates emergency support measures when needed.
