Job summary

Sheridan Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced ICU nurse to provide direct and indirect professional nursing care in the ICU. The role involves prioritizing patient needs, communicating changes in condition with physicians, and responding quickly to clinical changes in accordance with ACLS protocols.

Minimal supervision, ongoing ACLS/BLS responsibilities, and opportunities to rotate to other units as oriented are available.

Qualifications

• Current Wyoming RN license (unrestricted).
• BLS certification required.
• ADN required; BSN preferred.
• ACLS certification required within 1 year of start date.
• ENPC or PALS certification required within 1 year.
• TNCC certification required within 1 year.
• Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening conducted.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic airway management and related nursing procedures.
• Function competently during CPR and ACLS-enabled responses.
• Care for patients with nutritional/metabolic needs and fluid/electrolyte management.
• Assess and care for patients in immediate post-anesthesia period.
• Use critical thinking to intervene in urgent situations until a physician is on site.
• Assist with orientation of new ICU staff and maintain competencies.

Job Summary

Provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit. May work in other units as oriented/assigned. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs. Communicates with physicians about changes in a patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring. Correctly identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Able to provide basic airway management utilizing oral and nasal airways, ambu bag, jaw thrust or head tilt/chin lift maneuvers, and suctioning.
• Functions competently during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Provides care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status.
• Provides care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.
• Able to assess and care for patients in the immediate post-anesthesia period.
• Able to function independently by using critical thinking skills to assess and intervene in critical situations until a physician is on site.
• Assists with orientation of new employees to the ICU.
• Maintains department competencies.

Position Qualifications — Education / Experience / Licenses and Certifications

• Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure.
• BLS certification required.
• Associated degree in nursing required, baccalaureate degree in nursing, preferred.
• ACLS certification is required within one year of the position start date.
• ENPC or PALS certification is required within one year of the start date.
• TNCC certification, required within one year of the start date.
