Job summary

Sheridan Memorial Hospital is seeking an ICU Registered Nurse to provide direct and indirect professional nursing care in the Intensive Care Unit. The role requires critical thinking, rapid assessment, and collaboration with physicians to manage patients according to ACLS protocols.

Candidates should hold a Wyoming RN license, BLS, and be prepared to obtain ACLS, ENPC or PALS, and TNCC within the first year. A pre-employment screen is required; background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Active Wyoming RN license with no restrictions.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS, ENPC or PALS, and TNCC within one year of start date are required.
• Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
• Ability to work in ICU and other units as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care in the ICU.
• Assess and respond to changes in patient condition per ACLS protocols.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia identification.
• Support orientation of new ICU staff and maintain competencies.

JOB SUMMARY

Provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit. May work in other units as oriented/assigned. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs. Communicates with physicians about changes in a patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring. Correctly identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Able to provide basic airway management utilizing oral and nasal airways, ambu bag, jaw thrust or head tilt/chin lift maneuvers, and suctioning.
• Functions competently during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Provides care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status.
• Provides care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.
• Able to assess and care for patients in the immediate post-anesthesia period.
• Able to function independently by using critical thinking skills to assess and intervene in critical situations until a physician is on site.
• Assists with orientation of new employees to the ICU.
• Maintains department competencies.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS — Education / Experience / Licenses and Certifications

• Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure.
• BLS certification required.
• Associated degree in nursing required, baccalaureate degree in nursing, preferred.
• ACLS certification is required within one year of the position start date.
• ENPC or PALS certification is required within one year of the start date.
• TNCC certification, required within one year of the start date.
• Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products. Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required.
