Job summary

Maricopa County Correctional Health Services seeks a Registered Nurse to provide medically necessary, evidence-based care within the county jail system. Responsibilities include assessments, nursing interventions, medication administration, IV and phlebotomy, and discharge planning.

Qualifications

  • Valid, unrestricted nursing license issued by the state board (Arizona or compact state).
  • Experience in medical/surgical, ER, urgent care, or psychiatric settings is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessments and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Monitor patient progress and evaluate outcomes.
  • Perform standard nursing procedures based on patient needs.
  • Complete documentation including discharge planning.
  • Provide health education to patients as appropriate.
  • Administer medications and address pharmacological needs.
  • Perform basic IV and phlebotomy tasks.
  • Participate in orientation and training of staff and students.

About the Position

As a Registered Nurse for Maricopa County Correctional Health Services, you help fulfill the mission of providing medically necessary, evidence-based integrated health care to patients going through the judicial system. Our nurses are engaged, lifelong learners who believe in a culture of collaboration, communication, and a team approach to quality patient care. Daily, you will respond to the medical needs and provide necessary continuity of care that may emerge during a patient’s stay in the county jail system.

We Require
  • Valid, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing or issued by another state recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing as a multi-compact license state

  • Experience as a Registered Nurse in a Medical/Surgical, ER, Urgent Care, or Psychiatric setting
Job Contributions
  • Provide assessments and implement appropriate nursing interventions
  • Monitor the patient’s progress and evaluate outcomes
  • Perform standard nursing procedures appropriate to the patient's needs
  • Complete and process all required documentation, including plans and discharge planning, in a comprehensive, objective, and legible manner
  • Provide health-related education to patients as appropriate to patient needs
  • Administer medication and address other pharmacological needs
  • Perform basic intravenous and phlebotomy skills
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new employees, contract staff, students, and others
Working Conditions
  • Ability to work inside a jail
  • Ability to respond to emergencies
  • Ability to get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney that may weigh up to 35 pounds
  • Will be assigned to various clinical locations in the Phoenix area within a 5-mile radius
