Job summary

PrimeCare Medical, Inc. seeks dedicated Registered Nurses (RN) to work part time in the medical department at the Charles County Detention Center in La Plata, MD. You will provide comprehensive nursing care under supervision and perform duties in a correctional healthcare setting.

Available positions include Full-time evenings (2 pm–10:30 pm) and Full-time nights (10 pm–6:30 am) with rotating weekends. On-site role with orientation and on-the-job training offered.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs duties under supervision of Medical Director or mid-level practitioner per protocol.
• Ensure proper flow of inmate/patient information to appropriate personnel.
• Provide health counseling to inmates/patients.
• Conduct sick calls and provide provisional diagnosis under protocol.
• Refer cases not covered by protocol to PCM Physician.
• Administer immunizations, tuberculin testing, CPR and related exams.
• Perform 12-lead ECGs and prepare results for provider interpretation.
• Record retrieval and filing of medical information in records.
• Administer treatment prescribed by orders from a provider.
• Administer oral and parenteral medications.
• Take vital signs and complete assessments at each shift start.

Job description

PrimeCare Medical, Inc. is looking for dedicated and hard-working Registered Nurses (RN) to work part time in the medical department at the Charles County Detention Center located in La Plata, MD. In this role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care and perform duties under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, ADON, DON, and HSA.

Available Positions:

• Full-time Evenings with rotating weekends (2 pm to 10:30 pm)
• Full-time Nights with rotating weekends (10 pm to 6:30 am)

Job Responsibilities:

• Performs duties under the supervision of a Medical Director or other mid-level practitioner (i.e., PA-C or CRNP) according to protocols established by the Medical Director.
• Ensure that the proper flow of relevant information (inmate/patient information, unit problems) is disseminated to appropriate personnel.
• Provide health counseling to inmates/patients.
• Conduct sick calls for inmates/patients and provide provisional diagnosis and treatment for selected minor illnesses and injuries defined by written protocol and approved by the PCM Medical Director. Refer to all cases not covered by the written protocol or that do not respond to treatment to an appropriate PCM Physician.
• Administer immunizations, tuberculin testing, basic and advanced first aid, basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, visual acuity and telebinocular examinations, and oxygen, when indicated.
• Perform twelve (12) lead electrocardiograms and assemble results for interpretation by a provider.
• Record retrieval and file medical information in the inmate/patient medical record.
• Administer treatment prescribed by verbal or written orders from a provider.
• Administer oral and parenteral medications prescribed by a Provider.
• At a minimum of every shift, at the beginning of the shift, take vital signs, do a complete assessment, and document findings on the dispensary card of all inmates/patients housed in the medical unit and/or mental health unit.

This position provides a 2 week orientation period where you will be training on the job and shadowing with the nursing staff.

Additional Compensation:

In addition to the hourly pay rate, PrimeCare Medical also offers Overtime Pay, Shift Differential, and Weekend Differential compensation, Premium Holiday Pay, as well as Sign-on Bonus and Employee Referral Bonus opportunities.

(Please note that the pay range is not a sliding scale based on experience; it reflects the base pay as well as the differentials offered between shifts.)

The RN is a fast-paced position, and as such we must have someone who has the ability to multi-task and has a good grasp of patient assessment skills. Other requirements include:
