Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Fort Stockton, TX is seeking a Dental Assistant to support dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments and materials, and by assisting faculty, residents and students in the clinic. The role emphasizes infection control, x-ray exposure with EVAsoft, chart preparation, and timely records entry.

Must have a high school diploma and dental assistant training, and be registered with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and one year of related experience or completion of an approved dental assistant course.
• Dental Assistant registry with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist dentist or hygienist at chair side.
• Administer Plaque Index test and provide oral hygiene instructions to patients.
• Gather charts, equipment and supplies in a timely manner for use during dental appointments.
• Practice infection control procedures according to policy guidelines.
• Expose and develop dental x-rays; proficient with EVAsoft Dental Imaging Software.
• Count instruments and sharps and maintain logs of use.
• Document information into the dental record of care; assist with typing patient treatment notes for EMR.
• Answer routine questions and refer others to the dentist.
• Take vital signs and record information prior to invasive procedures.

Position Description

Under direct supervision, supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments and materials. Provides assistance to faculty, residents and students in respective clinic in accordance with the State Dental Practice Act. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

Major/Essential Functions

• Assist dentist or hygienist at chair side.
• Administer Plaque Index test and provides oral hygiene instructions to patients.
• Gathers charts, equipment and supplies in a timely manner for use during dental appointments.
• Practices infection control procedures according to policy guidelines in Policy and Procedure Manual.
• Exposes and develops dental x-rays; will be proficient with the use of the EVAsoft Dental Imaging Software.
• Counts instruments and sharps and maintains logs of use.
• Documents information into dental record of care; will assist with the typing of the doctor's patient treatment notes for inclusion into the EMR system.
• Answers routine questions and refers others to the dentist.
• Takes vital signs and records information in record prior to invasive procedures.

Required Qualifications

High School or equivalent. One (1) year of related experience or completion of an approved dental assistant course is required. Dental Assistant registry with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous Correctional Experience.
