Position Overview

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides individualized, behavior-analytic services to children enrolled at the Edna A. Hill Child Development Center. The RBT works closely with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), case managers, graduate students, undergraduate practicum students, and faculty to implement high-quality care practices aligned with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) licensing regulations. This position emphasizes hands‑on learning, compassionate support, and active engagement with children across various developmental stages.

Job Description

40% - Behavior Intervention and Skill Development

• Implement individualized behavior intervention plans developed by a BCBA
• Use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques to teach new skills and reduce challenging behaviors
• Provide one‑on‑one support during structured and naturalistic learning opportunities
• Support development in areas such as communication, social interaction, play, self‑help, and academic readiness

20% - Data Collection and Documentation

• Collect accurate, objective data on skill acquisition and behavior reduction goals
• Complete session notes and required documentation promptly
• Communicate relevant observations and progress updates to the supervising BCBA

15% - Child Supervision and Engagement

• Interact with children at their developmental level through play and structured routines
• Support daily living skills, including toileting, handwashing, eating, and transitions
• Reinforce positive behavior and help maintain a consistent, predictable environment

10% - Licensing Compliance and Safety

• Comply with KDHE regulations, including maintaining required child‑to‑staff ratios, sanitation practices, and proper documentation
• Participate in emergency preparedness drills and follow classroom safety procedures
• Monitor children’s health and safety and report any concerns promptly and appropriately

10% - Team Communication and Collaboration

• Collaborate with lead teachers, therapists, and faculty supervisors to support individualized care
• Share child‑specific updates and concerns professionally and confidentially
• Attend meetings or training sessions as requested by supervisors

5% - Family Interaction and Professional Conduct

• Greet families professionally during drop‑off and pick‑up, offering brief and appropriate updates
• Uphold ethical and professional standards, including confidentiality and respectful communication
• Maintain professional boundaries in all client and family interactions

Required Qualifications

• Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), as indicated in application materials.
• A minimum of three clock hours of training in child development or willingness to complete prior to employment, as indicated in application materials.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire), as indicated in application materials.
• Ability to work effectively and compassionately with young children of diverse developmental levels and backgrounds, as indicated in application materials.
• Ability to perform basic physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds, playing on the floor with children, and moving quickly in response to children’s needs, as indicated in application materials.
• Demonstrated reliability in attending scheduled shifts consistently and on time, as indicated in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in early childhood education, childcare, or related fields, as indicated in application materials.
• Knowledge of child development, behavior management, or early intervention strategies, as indicated in application materials.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

• Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
• This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
