Job summary

Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD) is a private, not-for-profit corporation founded in 1972 serving adults and children with developmental and intellectual disabilities within the greater Kansas City, MO area. CDD provides residential care services, employment services, day habilitation to adults, and a private school for students who are referred through the Kansas City Missouri area.

Job Description

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) / Behavior Support provides direct behavioral intervention and support to students with developmental disabilities in a private separate school setting. Under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the RBT implements Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programming, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and skill acquisition programs for students receiving ABA services. In addition, the employee serves as a member of the school's Behavior Support team by providing behavioral intervention, crisis response, classroom consultation, and implementation of positive behavior supports for all students, regardless of ABA eligibility. This position collaborates with teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators to create a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment while promoting student independence, communication, and social-emotional growth.

Essential Functions

Provide support to students and Individuals served in accordance with Individual Education Plan, Individual Support Plan, Plan Addendums, Behavior Intervention Plans, Doctor’s orders, and other written documentation covering best practices and/or procedures for best supporting students and Individuals as assigned and in compliance with company policy and procedure.

Direct Student Support
  • Provide direct behavioral support to students throughout the school day.
  • Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), physician orders, and individualized behavioral programming.
  • Implement ABA treatment plans and skill acquisition programs under the supervision of the BCBA for students receiving ABA services.
  • Utilize positive behavior supports, reinforcement strategies, de-escalation techniques, and approved crisis intervention procedures.
  • Respond immediately to behavioral crises and staff assistance calls.
  • Assist with student transitions, arrival, dismissal, bus loading and unloading, lunch, recess, vocational training, and community instruction.
  • Rotate between classrooms to provide behavioral support where students’ needs are greatest.
  • Provide behavioral support during inclusion opportunities, special events, and community-based instruction.
  • Substitute or provide classroom coverage when behavioral support is needed.
Data Collection and Documentation
  • Collect objective behavioral and instructional data for students receiving ABA services.
  • Collect behavioral data and documentation for students receiving school-wide behavior support services.
  • Enter behavioral data into electronic systems accurately and within required timelines.
  • Prepare behavior summaries and progress reports as requested.
  • Complete incident reports and required documentation promptly.
  • Assist in identifying behavioral trends and making recommendations to supervisors.
  • Conduct preference assessments and interest inventories when assigned.
Behavior Support and Intervention
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans with fidelity.
  • Assist in developing and updating behavior support plans under the direction of the Intervention Specialist and BCBA.
  • Model positive behavior intervention strategies for teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Provide coaching and support to classroom staff in implementing behavioral strategies consistently.
  • Assist with functional behavior assessment activities as directed by the BCBA.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to preventing challenging behaviors through environmental modifications and positive supports.
  • Promote student dignity, independence, and self-determination during all interventions.
Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with BCBA, Intervention Specialists, teachers, paraprofessionals, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, and administrators.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, behavior review meetings, and team meetings as assigned.
  • Communicate behavioral concerns and student progress promptly to supervisors.
  • Maintain positive professional relationships with students, families, and coworkers.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist in all areas of the Rainbow Center program as assigned.
  • Cover classroom breaks and lunches as directed.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training.
  • Maintain all required certifications and professional competencies.
  • Prioritize duties based on student safety, urgency, and school needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, excellent attendance, and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in a school setting with exposure to high levels of noise, human elements such as (blood, urine, etc.); frequent interruptions and fast-paced working conditions. In this role standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines are routinely used.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, climb or bend, get up & down from floor repeatedly. The employee must constantly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

This is a full-time position with core hours of work 8:00AM-4:00PM

Required Education And/or Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).

Preferred Education And Experience
  • One to two years of experience working with children with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or behavioral challenges.
  • Experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) interventions in a school setting.
  • Proficient English, written and verbal communication skills.
