Job summary

Volunteers of America Mid-States is seeking a Registered Alcohol and Drug Peer Support Specialist in Somerset, KY. This full-time, non-exempt role provides peer support to persons in recovery, drawing on lived experience to mentor and motivate individuals toward sustained recovery.

The position requires a KY Registered Alcohol and Drug Peer Support Specialist with a valid driver’s license; prior recovery experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED.
• KY Registered Alcohol and Drug Peer Support Specialist in good standing with KY Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors.
• Valid KY Driver’s License and current automobile insurance required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and database(s).
• Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
• Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the agency.
• Identify barriers to full participation in community resources and develop strategies to overcome those barriers.
• Maintain contact with recovering persons after they leave the program to ensure ongoing success and provide re-engagement support as needed.
