VOA Mid-States in Somerset, KY seeks a Full-Time Registered Alcohol and Drug Peer Support Specialist to provide peer support for persons in recovery. The role requires understanding recovery paths and knowledge of the treatment system.

You will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery, sharing personal recovery experiences and building authentic peer-to-peer relationships.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED; KY Registered Alcohol and Drug Peer Support Specialist in good standing.

Responsabilités

• Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and database(s).
• Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey.
• Model recovery, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals to help prevent relapse.
• Assist recovering persons to identify personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.
• Assist/coach recovering persons develop their own plan for advancing their recovery; for “getting the life they want.”
• Recovery Planning -- facilitate the transition from a professionally directed service plan to a self-directed Recovery Plan.
• Promote self-advocacy by assisting recovering persons to have their voices fully heard; needs, goals and objectives established.
• Identify barriers to full participation in community resources and develop strategies to overcome them.
• Maintain contact with recovering person after they leave the program to ensure ongoing success.
• Develop relationships with community groups/agencies to support recovery goals.
• Provide ongoing support and encouragement for opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community activities.
• Develop, implement, and promote ongoing community training opportunities.

Formation

High School Graduate or GED; KY Registered Alcohol and Drug Peer Support Specialist in good standing with KY Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors
