Job summary

Lynker Corporation seeks a Phy sical Scientist for EVU Regional Verification to advance object-oriented verification and AI-driven forecast evaluation within the NOAA/NWS framework. You will develop customized RRFS/REFS/WoFS verification workflows, analyze high-resolution models, and liaise with interagency teams on QPF topics.

The role emphasizes collaboration, code contributions to METplus, and presenting results in a fast-paced environment supporting MEG.

Qualifications

• MS in atmospheric sciences or related field; 7+ years experience in numerical model analysis, evaluation, or verification.
• Experience with object-oriented verification techniques (e.g., METplus MODE) and evaluating high-resolution NWP models.
• Proficient Python in a HPC UNIX environment to compute verification metrics and generate plots.
• Experience with common meteorological data formats (GRIB2, NetCDF, HDF) and METplus.
• Strong communication skills across interagency teams, developers, and forecasters.
• Knowledge of web page technologies (HTML, JavaScript) to display plots of verification data.

Responsibilities

• Apply object-oriented verification methods to evaluate high-resolution model performance and improve spatial skill assessment.
• Develop convective-scale and rapid-refresh workflows with RRFS, REFS, WoFS; tailor verification workflows for model development.
• Liaise between Weather Prediction Center and EVU/OMD on QPF and NB/HNBN/NDFD topics; support operational evaluation.
• Develop metrics for AI/ML model verification (e.g., HRRRCast) and contribute METplus enhancements.
• Support MEG efforts and present findings at technical meetings; adhere to NOAA/NWS IT policies.
• Collaborate with interagency teams and analysts to communicate results effectively.
