Lynker seeks a Physical Scientist for the EVU Regional Verification within the NOAA/NWS ecosystem. You will advance object-oriented verification methods, develop convective-scale workflows, and evaluate AI-driven forecast systems, serving as a liaison across agencies and contributing to METplus community software.

Qualifications

• MS in atmospheric sciences or equivalent experience (7+ years in numerical model analysis/evaluation)
• Experience with object-oriented verification techniques (e.g., METplus MODE) and evaluation of high-resolution NWP models
• Extensive Python experience in a HPC UNIX environment for computing verification metrics and plotting
• Proficient with GitHub for version control and collaboration
• Experience with meteorological data formats (GRIB2, NetCDF, BUFR) and METplus
• Strong teamwork and ability to communicate results across interagency teams and forecasters
• Some familiarity with HTML/JavaScript for web-based plots of verification data
• Ability to analyze/plot and verify model output independently and work both independently and in teams

Responsabilités

• Investigate and apply object-oriented verification methods to evaluate high-resolution model performance and improve spatial skill
• Develop convective-scale/rapid-refresh workflows with RRFS, REFS, WoFS for model development
• Serve as technical liaison between WPC and EVU/OMD on NB M and NDFD verification topics
• Develop metrics for AI/ML model verification (e.g., HRRRCast)
• Contribute to METplus verification framework with metrics, code enhancements, graphics
• Support MEG efforts and present findings at technical/status meetings
