Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an experienced engineering leader to plan, coordinate, and manage regional highway projects. The role supports the Director of Preconstruction, overseeing federal, state, and other funding programs to ensure timely, compliant design plans and specifications.

You will supervise Program and Design Managers, manage staff and budgets, ensure adherence to policy and AASHTO guidelines, and represent the department at meetings.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering and eight (8) years of engineering work experience.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer by the South Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors is required.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and administer major regional engineering activities with scope and complexity.
• Support the Director of Preconstruction by managing funding programs to develop projects with design plans and specifications.
• Oversee Program Managers and project development processes for highway projects, including supervision of personnel, scheduling, planning and budgeting.
• Direct Design Managers in developing highway design plans and specifications for roadway/bridge projects in line with State, Federal, and AASHTO guidelines.
• Perform miscellaneous duties such as correspondence, reporting, and representation at meetings.
• Manage departmental resources, including staff and consultants, to deliver projects and plans on schedule.
• Handle personnel management activities and monitor budgets and procurement.
