Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a capable engineer to assist with planning, coordination and administration of major regional projects. You will support discipline leads, help develop and review designs, and resolve design and utility conflicts to ensure timely highway plans.

Responsibilities include managing in-house design squads, forecasting workloads, maintaining schedules, and coordinating with other offices.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Construction Science and Management.
Three years of engineering or construction management work experience.
A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
Ability to work under supervision and travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

Assist with planning, coordination, and administration of major regional engineering activities.
Support discipline leads to ensure plans align with the Department's mission.
Develop and review project designs, investigate conflicts, and enter pay items in P2S.
Assist in managing in-house design squads to deliver highway plans on time.
Forecast workloads and balance staff capacity; recommend consultants for peaks.
Develop and monitor project schedules and maintain timelines.
Represent the Department in meetings, prepare reports, and coordinate with other offices.
Assist with on-call consultants including contract negotiations and procurement compliance.
Review turn-key scopes, estimates and fee submittals to ensure fair rates.
