Job summary

Nevada Gold Mines is seeking a Regional Training & Competency Assurance Specialist to join the Safety, Health, and Training team. You will engage with stakeholders to ensure safe mining operations and verify training quality and regulatory compliance across Nevada sites.

The role focuses on assessing training effectiveness, workforce competency, and governance, partnering with site leaders to drive improvements and standardized standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of mining operations, health & safety, training, workforce development, or compliance.
• Experience with MSHA regulations and mining training requirements.
• Experience managing training programs and competency systems.
• Experience conducting competency evaluations, PTOs, and workforce development activities.
• Strong understanding of mining operations, hazards, critical controls, and risk management.
• Ability to coach, mentor, and provide professional feedback.
• Ability to evaluate documentation and workforce competency for improvement.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across sites.
• Ability to travel extensively between Nevada Gold Mines operations.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Conduct training assurance, workforce competency verification, and field engagement across NVG Mines.
• Perform training assurance reviews for regional standards, procedures, and regulations.
• Verify training, competency, qualification, and LMS documentation.
• Audit training records and documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Support regulatory inspections, compliance reviews, and internal audits.
• Conduct trainer, field trainer, and assessor qualification reviews.
• Review training delivery to ensure alignment with curriculum and methods.
• Evaluate training programs and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Conduct competency verifications across Surface, Underground, Process, and Maintenance.
• Verify employees meet task and equipment competencies per standards.
• Assess understanding of procedures, hazards, controls, and risk management.
• Evaluate competency retention and ongoing workforce development.
• Align competency requirements with qualification standards and pathways.
• Perform routine field engagements to observe work and transfer training to the workplace.
• Observe work to assess adherence to safe practices and consistency.
• Evaluate PTOs for consistency and effectiveness.
• Conduct annual risk-based competency verifications and follow-ups.
• Assess supervisor engagement in workforce development and coaching.
• Provide constructive coaching to employees and site personnel.
• Develop corrective action plans with site leadership and verify improvements.
• Identify competency gaps, compliance deficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
• Support workforce development through field engagement and mentoring.
• Analyze training data, audits, and compliance trends to identify improvements.
• Develop reports and dashboards for regional and site leadership.
• Track corrective actions and verify timely completion.
• Communicate findings through reports, presentations, and meetings.
• Support development of assurance tools, audit protocols, and evaluation methods.
• Standardize competency management systems across NVG Mines.
• Participate in regional standardization initiatives and share best practices.
• Promote collaboration across NVG Mines operations.
