Job summary

Nevada Gold Mines is seeking a Safety and Health (S&H) Specialist at our Cortez district. You will work with Senior S&H professionals to improve safety, lead investigations, and ensure compliance with federal and state standards while promoting a culture of safe behavior.

The ideal candidate has a related degree and several years of safety experience in mining, with MSHA familiarity and a commitment to training and mentorship across the workforce.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field + 3 years of experience preferred.
• Associate degree in related field + 6 years of experience in industry preferred.
• 8-12 years of experience in industry with proven/demonstrated Leadership in Safety preferred.
• MSHA Blue Card Instructor preferred.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the Federal Mine Safety & Health Act of 1977 required.
• Prior knowledge/experience in industrial hygiene and OHH principles required.
• Prior experience in incident case management and workers compensation preferred.
• Ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and situations required.
• Prior experience with incident investigations and root cause analysis preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks while being both organized and effective required.
• Professional S&H certifications (CMSP, CSP, etc.) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise site management to develop and implement safety strategies.
• Participate in internal inspections and audits to address corrective actions.
• Maintain weekly/monthly overview plans for IH/S&H functions.
• Ensure compliance with federal/state/company standards; accompany inspectors.
• Assist with health testing or IH activities as needed.
• Serve as a resource for investigations to determine root cause.
• Develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.
• Maintain documentation and data entry in databases.
• Assist in risk assessments by facilitating action plans.
• Maintain involvement with division safety teams and trainings.
• Provide mentoring to employees.
• Lead toolbox and safety meetings and training sessions.
• Develop and instruct MSHA topics during trainings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field

Associate degree in related field

8-12 years of experience in industry with proven/demonstrated Leadership in Safety
