Qualifications

Safety Management Group seeks a Regional Safety Advisor – Utility Construction - Bluefield, WV

The key functions of a Regional Safety Advisor are to prioritize safety, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change. The Advisor in this role will work in a utility construction environment.

The Regional Safety Advisor is responsible for providing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety (EHS) support across all construction-related activities associated with capital construction and maintenance transmission projects within the Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee footprint. Projected schedule is 50+ hours weekly. Schedule can vary.

Additional Information

• SMG full-time, benefitted Associates are eligible for Premium Pay after working 40 billable hours for the week. Premium pay is at a 1.35 multiplier.
• Per Diem is available for non-local candidates only. Per diem is $175/night for overnights.
• Annual pay/merit review/increase.

Overview Of Job Responsibilities

• Contractor safety management program implementation
• Complete quality safety observations, including documentation of findings with a focus on leading indicators
• Establish, build, and maintain effective relationships with appropriate stakeholders
• Provide safety leadership for grid enhancement projects
• Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law and the owner
• Work to ensure safety requirements are clear to contractors
• Represent the utility client in meetings
• Prepare reports in a clear and concise manner
• Reinforces safety culture with field crews
• Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures

Requirements

• 5+ years safety experience
• Ability to obtain CUSP Certification within one year of hire date
• Ability to operate vehicles in mountainous terrain
• Be able to work outdoors in all reasonable conditions
• Proficient with effective email correspondence, electronic document development, creating safety-related communications (bulletins, alerts, etc.), navigating new computer software and applications
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities is critical to success
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a collaborative team setting
• Ability to lead meetings and initiatives to drive results
• Able to drive to multiple areas around the state

Experience Preferred In The Following Areas

• Transmission & distribution, construction
• Degree preferred
• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local

Physical Demands Of The Job May Include

• Moving about long distances

• Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
• Working in extreme weather (hot and cold environments)
