Xcel Energy is offering an internship in Colorado that supports the Performance Optimization Organization, with collaboration to the Reliability Organization for Colorado, including Cherokee and Fort St. Vrain.

You will provide technical responses to the operations and maintenance of the assigned plants and work closely with local Plant Engineers and Reliability Engineers. Ideal candidates are current students in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering who can commit to summer full-time

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week).
• Hybrid work policy requires commuting to the designated location in-person.

Responsibilities

• Review designs and assess APM recommendations.
• Perform work order cleanup as part of project tasks.
• Support capital projects and reliability improvement efforts.

This intern will be supporting the Performance Optimization Organization. Specifically the interns will be reporting to the Reliability Organization for Colorado supporting Cherokee and Fort St. Vrain. Within this role they will be providing technical responses to the operations / maintenance of the assigned plants and will be directly working with the local Plant Engineers / Reliability Engineers.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Review designs.
• Review APM recommendations.
• Work order cleanup.
• Support capital projects.

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027)
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous internship experience.
