Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking an intern to join the Performance Optimization Organization, reporting to Reliability Engineering in Colorado. You will assist with operations and maintenance support for Cherokee and Fort St.

Vrain, review designs, APM recommendations, and help clean up work orders while collaborating with Plant Engineers and Reliability Engineers. The internship runs through the summer with the potential to extend based on performance and business needs.

• Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
• Willingness to work full-time during summer and part-time during the school year.
• Commitment to hybrid/in-person work at designated Colorado locations.

This intern will be supporting the Performance Optimization Organization. Specifically the interns will be reporting to the Reliability Organization for Colorado supporting Cherokee and Fort St. Vrain. Within this role they will be providing technical responses to the operations / maintenance of the assigned plants and will be directly working with the local Plant Engineers / Reliability Engineers.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Review designs.
• Review APM recommendations.
• Work order cleanup.
• Support capital projects.

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027)
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) / part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous internship experience.

Non-Bargaining The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $23.10 per hour.
