Xcel Energy in Minnesota invites you to join our Reliability Engineering - Renewables internship starting May 24, 2027. The paid program offers hands-on work on a 7.5GW renewable energy fleet, exposure to senior leadership, and collaboration with key internal stakeholders.

You will participate in fleet reliability analytics, SCADA support, new plant setup, failure rate calculations, technology evaluations, spare parts tracking, and occasional field inspections, with a hybrid in-person work

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher.
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (10 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Reliability Engineering - Renewables team! The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase and apply your problem-solving abilities to an operating fleet of 7.5GW of renewable energy assets. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, present to senior leadership, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the Performance Optimization and Renewable Operations organizations.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Fleet reliability analytics using the Bazefield and Aveva PI software platforms

• New plant setup support

• Performing component failure rate calculations

• Evaluating new technologies

• Substation component spare parts and risk tracking

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current student, Junior or higher

• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering

• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (10 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher

• Completed 2 years of undergraduate engineering coursework

• Pursuing Electrical Engineering with completed Junior Design coursework or equivalent
