Xcel Energy is offering an internship in the Performance Optimization Organization in Denver, Colorado. The interns will report to the Reliability Organization for Colorado, supporting operations and maintenance at Cherokee and Fort St.

Vrain, providing technical responses and collaborating with Plant and Reliability Engineers. The internship begins May 24, 2027, and may extend beyond the initial term based on performance and business needs.

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week).
• Must commute to the designated work location in Denver, CO, per hybrid policy.

This intern will be supporting the Performance Optimization Organization. Specifically the interns will be reporting to the Reliability Organization for Colorado supporting Cherokee and Fort St. Vrain. Within this role they will be providing technical responses to the operations / maintenance of the assigned plants and will be directly working with the local Plant Engineers / Reliability Engineers.

Typical intern responsibilities

• Review designs.
• Review APM recommendations.
• Work order cleanup.
• Support capital projects.

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027)
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous internship experience.
