Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)
• Minimum of five (5) years of hospital pharmacy administration and/or management experience
• Knowledge of Joint Commission (JCAHO) regulations, pharmacy practice standards, and state and federal pharmacy laws
• Experience managing departmental budgets, inventory control, and staffing
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, team-building, and management skills
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and leadership to support positive patient outcomes

Responsibilities

• Meet requirement within the medical center for administrative reporting and follow-ups as well as management of human resources.
• Achieve QA benchmarks and thresholds through oversight of systems which provide for the safe and effective use of medication by proper procurement, control and distribution of pharmaceutical supplies and intravenous preparations.
• Budget requirements within the Director's control (e.g., operating expenses, required staffing hours) are managed according to Division standards.
• Serve as a role model of excellent customer service by responding constructively to the needs of all those interacted with on a daily basis (Nursing, medical staff, patients, co-workers, and supervisors).
• Plan and organize pharmaceutical care activities in accordance with patient care needs, hospital/department strategic plan, hospital and medical staff policy, ASHP standards, state and federal pharmacy laws, JCAHO requirements and the needs of the UPMC Health System.
• Select, coach, motivate, and aid in the development of a fully qualified staff of managers, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy specialists, and pharmacy technicians.
• Visibly demonstrate a commitment to Medication Use Informatics and Process improvements through active participation with the Medical Staff as well as the integration of medication use processes into multidisciplinary teams.
