Job summary

Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to lead scientific exchange, research activities, and congress support in rheumatology and dermatology immunology. The role requires a doctoral degree and strong external engagement withScientific Leaders across a broad US territory.

You will guide protocol discussions, support investigator-initiated studies, and ensure compliance with GCP and regulatory guidelines, while collaborating with GCSA, GCTO, and other teams.

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD.
• Minimum 3 years of therapeutic area experience beyond degree.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with external stakeholders.
• Commitment to scientific excellence and dialogue.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and related regulations.
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote.
• Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms.
• Commitment to GMSA SOPs and GCP guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Develop professional relationships with national and regional SLs for access to approved medical information.
• Conduct peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintain medical contact with SLs.
• Address scientific questions and direct inquiries to appropriate resources.
• Maintain current knowledge of AOI therapeutic areas.
• Initiate discussions with SLs or investigators to align with research strategies.
• Support investigator-sponsored research and site initiation visits.
• Identify barriers to patient enrollment and retention.
• Lead protocol discussions with GCTO and participate in site activities.
• Engage in scientific congresses and support data exchange.
• Gather feedback to understand medical needs of SLs and patients.
• Lead by example and model inclusive, high-performing teams.
