Job Description

This is an onsite position based at our Main Office location in Gastonia, NC.

Role Summary

The Regional Material Group Manager – Steel has North America (U.S., Mexico, and Canada) responsibility for all purchasing activities, projects, supplier quality, and processes within the material group (MG) for Steel purchasing. This position will oversee both Life Sciences & Environmental, and Transportation business units. The Regional MGM – Steel manages the execution of strategic and tactical steel purchasing tasks within North America.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Define and execute Material Group (MG) and Supplier strategies for Steel purchasing, managing supplier strategy, development, and quality in cooperation with Quality, Plants, and Business Units.
  2. Lead strategic planning, forecasting, and reporting of Steel purchasing, focusing on material price and technical savings projects.
  3. Achieve material price development targets within the Steel commodity.
  4. Coordinate with other functions (e.g., R&D) for product innovations and sourcing activities.
  5. Drive sourcing decisions in collaboration with Commodity Buyers and participate in the Sourcing Board.
  6. Provide market and technology know-how related to suppliers and commodities.
  7. Identify, approve, and manage relationships with new and existing suppliers.
  8. Manage supplier risk and escalate high-level issues.
  9. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure service delivery and strategy alignment.
  10. Standardize materials, processes, and data for Steel within the Material Group.
  11. Handle regional pricing, contracts, negotiations, and supplier objectives.
  12. Initiate and support technical savings projects and cross-functional initiatives.
  13. Manage order processing, contracts, and supplier performance.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • At least 4 years of relevant purchasing experience in a global manufacturing or industrial environment.
Required Skills:
  • Advanced negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal, written, presentation).
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% (domestic/international).
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with SAP / SAP BW.
  • Raw materials purchasing experience.
  • Experience in the automotive industry.
  • Technical knowledge specific to Steel purchasing.
