Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New York seeks a Legal Counsel under a contract with the New York State Office of New Americans. The attorney will advise, counsel and represent residents of Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties in various immigration matters and support ONA centers.

The role requires a Juris Doctor, bar admission, bilingual abilities, strong communication, organization and presentation skills, and a willingness to travel across the service region.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree required and admitted to practice law.
• Bar admission in any state or DC; NY bar preferred.
• Bilingual in English and another language.
• Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
• Experience presenting to diverse communities and stakeholders.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.

Responsabilités

• Advise, counsel and represent individuals in immigration matters (family reunification, visas, naturalization, asylum, etc.).
• Handle specialized and complex applications (VAWA, U visas, U.S. lawful status, etc.).
• Represent clients in removal proceedings, hearings and court appearances.
• Support ONA Opportunity Centers with consultations and legal questions.
• Provide trainings, Know-Your-Rights sessions and legal clinic participation.
• Maintain and update case files and manage data and reports.
• Travel within Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties; office presence in CCCS or Bronx Center as needed.
