Job summary

Crawford & Company in the New England region (NH/ME/MA) seeks an experienced property claims adjuster. This hybrid role blends work from home with field driving to assess complex commercial and residential property losses.

You will investigate, negotiate, and set loss estimates, mentor staff, and advocate for client outcomes while maintaining regulatory compliance. Travel and on-call duties may be required. A strong background in property claims and licenses where applicable is essential.

Qualifications

• Two years of college or equivalent education and experience.
• Experience adjusting complex property or liability claims.
• Strong knowledge of insurance coverage interpretations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be licensed as required by state/local jurisdictions; valid driver's license.
• On-call vary and possible after-hours work; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Examines claims forms, policies and endorsements to determine coverage.
• Mentor adjusters and coordinate losses with staff.
• Investigates claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining reports and inspecting damage.
• Sets estimated loss values for clients.
• Prepares client reports collecting and summarizing required information.
• Communicates adjustment recommendations after determining liability.
• Recommends litigation when appropriate.
• Presents evidence and serves as an expert witness at proceedings.
• Maintains compliance with regulations and quality standards.
• Keeps knowledge current through continuing education.
• Makes sales calls to solicit new business.

Location: NH, ME, MA, USA

Work Setup: Hybrid - Work From Home + Driving Role

What We're Looking For

5+ years of property claims experience

Experience handling both commercial and residential property claims

Strong investigation, negotiation, and claims management skills

New York Adjuster License preferred, but not required

• Requires two years college or an equivalent combination of education and experience; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Previous experience adjusting complex property or liability claims. General experience level in excess of 10 years handling claims or working within industry segment.
• Excellent knowledge of interpretation of insurance coverage, customs and practices.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Must be licensed as required by state and local jurisdictions. Must have a valid driver's license. Must complete designated courses while in position in order to advance.
• A variable schedule including on-call may be required. Depending on case load you may be required to work beyond normal business hours when necessary.
• Travel may be required during/outside of normal business hours when necessary.
