Job summary

Gundersen Health System in Decorah, IA is seeking a part-time Float Support Staff Technician/Phlebotomist to help our laboratory team. This float position primarily supports the Decorah clinic with travel to Prairie du Chien, Waukon, Spring Grove, La Crescent, and Viroqua as needed.

On-the-job training will be provided for those with or without prior lab experience. The role requires venipuncture and specimen handling, with shifts typically 8 hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Strong customer service and communication.
• Willingness to train; no prior phlebotomy required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood.
• Receive and perform waived kit testing and processing.
• Verify patient information and labeling of specimens.
• Prepare specimens for testing and ensure proper storage.
• Follow protocols and safety guidelines to maintain a sterile environment.
• Monitor vital signs and assess patient condition before, during, and after blood collection.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate specimen collection and processing.
• Maintain accurate records and patient confidentiality.
• Adhere to quality control procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
• Travel to regional clinics to provide laboratory support.
