Job summary

Ergon, Inc. is seeking a Regional Environmental Specialist to support day-to-day environmental compliance across asphalt and petroleum plants and terminals within a defined region.

This field-based role conducts inspections, manages waste streams, responds to spills, coordinates sampling, and trains site staff, collaborating with corporate EHS and external agencies. The role entails inspections, incident response, data collection, and driving regional travel (40–60%).

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field; hands-on experience may substitute.
• 2+ years of environmental, EHS, or compliance experience in industrial/manufacturing/refining/ asphalt environments preferred.
• General familiarity with waste management, spill prevention, and stormwater; permits not required.
• Willingness to travel regionally and work across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Serve as day-to-day environmental contact for multiple plants and terminals within a region.
• Conduct inspections and self-audits and track findings to correction.
• Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling and coordinate with vendors.
• Support SPCC and SWPPP programs and inspections.
• Respond to spills and incidents and document investigations.
• Collect environmental samples and coordinate with labs or contractors.
• Maintain site records and compliance calendars.
• Deliver hands-on environmental training to plant personnel.
• Assist with permit-related tasks without owning drafting or negotiations.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and escalate technical matters as needed.
• Travel 40–60% regionally.
