Job summary

Virginia Department of Emergency Management is seeking a Disaster Response and Recovery Officer to provide hands-on all-hazards emergency management support to assigned localities under the Chief Regional Coordinator. You will coordinate regional activities to ensure effective emergency management across planning, training, and operations.

The role requires reaching the region within 30 minutes and performing essential personnel duties during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of the role of the state, local and federal governments in emergencies.
• Knowledge in emergency response programs.
• Demonstrated skill in managing and evaluating emergency management programs.
• Ability to direct planning, safety and field operations activities.
• Ability to accurately assess potential emergency situations and make decisions in high stress environments.
• Ability to interpret and apply state and federal program regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Skill to build rapport, consensus and collaboration which spans regional, state and local stakeholders.
• Organizational skills, including the ability to adapt to fluctuations and changes in program activities.
• Knowledge of program management and program methodology.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine, direct and comprehensive hands-on all hazards emergency management support to assigned localities under the direction of the Chief Regional Coordinator.
• Coordinate, deliver, monitor and ensure compliance activities related to development and maintenance of emergency management programs for assigned localities.
• Provide planning, training exercises and fiscal and operational guidance for all phases of the emergency management program.
